Birth Doula | Postpartum Doula | Lactation Support | High Risk Support |

 What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained and experienced birth attendant, with extensive knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of birth and what is needed to support the natural processes of the body, both emotionally and physically.
A doula does not offer medical advice, perform medical or clinical procedures, or make medical decisions for our clients.

 Birth Doula

It is quite common for women to feel fearful or intimidated by the birth process and to simply 'want it over with'. Unfortunately, fear and stress can send your body into a fight or flight response, tightening your muscles and rerouting blood flow to your extremities. With your uterus tense and deprived of proper circulation labour can be arduous and your risk of complications increased. The good news is that your uterus responds to relaxation techniques like any other muscle in your body. As your doula, our role is to help to educate you on the physiological process of birth, support and nurture you through your labour, and work with you to keep you relaxed and calm. You can then remain centered and strong and let your body focus on the task at hand. Your body knows what to do! The hardest part is remaining calm and confident enough to let it.

Birth doula services include 3-5 prenatal visits (depending on the needs of the family), 24/7 on-call continuous labor support from 2 weeks prior to 2 weeks after your due date, 1-2 postpartum visits.

The Birth Doula service fee is $600. Payment plans are available if required. Please note that we have a special program for young mums (under 21) and those faced with extenuating circumstances.

"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers ~ strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength." Barbara Katz Rothman
